The 4 Pillars That Sustain Me as an Entrepreneur
It’s October and this month is personal to me because it’s my birth month that I share with a lot of special family members, mentors, and a few social media besties too.
I am opening up about the one thing that’s most scary about being a business owner - believing in your work and ability to excel at what you’ve set out to do. This goes beyond the initial start-up phase. You can spend countless hours perfecting the services and still feel like it’s not ready for the world to see. Or there are times when you don’t feel like there’s enough time in the day to spend on all of your tasks (sure you can outsource, but finding the right fit also takes time). Thankfully I’ve been lucky enough to have the help I need when I need it most.
But you don’t always have to feel this way. Here are a few lessons I learned along the way that make the scariest things go away:
Spend time focusing on flow - know that each day you won’t have the same level of creativity, you won’t always be able to spend 8 plus hours working or there may be some days where you’d rather not look at a computer screen (this is especially true for me). Screen fatigue is a real thing. When you allow yourself to get in an optimum flow state you set the tone for real magic to happen. That’s when your true talents will shine.
Here is one of my favorite flow state playlists I listen to while working. Listen Here
The healthier you are the healthier your business will be. Fitness is my non-negotiable. I work out at least 3 to 4 times a week. I get my best ideas while I’m on the bench press machine or fresh out of my Megaformer class. This also aids in great rest which is something I need to get in order to recharge my brain. I have to be prepared to solve problems for my clients and I can’t do this without good sleep.
Guilt-free quality time away from work - I truly value my relationships and it’s important that I have time to nourish them. I also leave the tech talk at home.
The path of an entrepreneur can be filled with fear, but it takes only a few simple daily practices to dispel the darkness and step into the light. By focusing on flow, I allow my creativity to ebb and flow naturally each day. Prioritizing fitness rejuvenates my mind and body, while adequate rest recharges me. Nourishing relationships ground me and provide perspective. Through these small but mighty habits, I find the confidence to overcome self-doubt and fully pursue my purpose. Entrepreneurship may contain scary moments of uncertainty, but they pale in comparison to the fulfillment I feel living my passion. Each day I aim to flow with optimism, move with energy, rest with tranquility, and connect with openness. By doing so, I banish lingering shadows, stand tall in the sunlight of possibility, and boldly walk the entrepreneurial path I was meant to take.
